Students are encouraged to prewrite using a blank plot diagram and must include all 6 parts of the plot structure (exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution). This story can be fiction or non-fiction, and creativity is highly encouraged. 6 Sentence Story Exemplar: Cherry Pie by Claire Willmschen (1) As the morning Louisiana Gazette circulated the small town, Sue gawked at the headline she'd been waiting for: "Cherry Pie Eating Contest Today at Noon!" (2) Billy Joe, Sue's best friend and reigning pie-eating champ arrived at Sue's doorstep to escort her to the competition. (3) On their way, Sue remembered her secret goal, a goal she'd been training for: eating pies as quickly as grandma could make them, to beat Billy Joe and take home the coveted Cherry-Pie Trophy. (4) Sue took her seat at the contestant table where the official yelled, "Dig in," beckoning her to down the pies one by one, her hands shaking with nerves. (5) Billy Joe couldn't believe his eyes as his best friend stomached one more pie than him, stripping him of his title like a thief. (6) We will never be friends again, Sue," Billy Joe yelled, but Sue didn't care, for she had won and was now the town's very own Cherry-Pie Champ.
