About Your TeacherMy name is David Turley, and this is my seventh year in education and my third year at Heritage High School. After graduating from Appalachian State University, I spent my first four years in education at Columbus Career and College Academy in Fair Bluff, NC and Whiteville, NC. For the first three years at CCCA, I was an English teacher working mostly with freshmen and sophomores at our Fair Bluff campus. During the summer following my third year of teaching, I was promoted to Program Director. In that position, I served as our school's assistant principal while also teaching one section of English III at our Whiteville campus. In my time with CCCA, I lived in Little River, SC, Wilmington, NC, and Fayetteville, NC. After living in downtown Raleigh for two years, I've recently moved to Apex. I like going out to eat and binge watching tv shows or movies with my girlfriend when I have some time to relax. I love teaching and am in the process of earning my masters in executive leadership, so I can go back into administration as an assistant principal or principal (I graduate in May). As part of the program, I served as an administrative intern last year and over summer and will continue to serve in that role this year as well, and as of October, I'm also the testing coordinator at HHS. Obviously, the multiple hats keep me busy 24/7.
As your teacher, I only ask that you keep an open mind; communicate with your classmates, parents, and me on a regular basis; work hard; share your thoughts and opinions; and allow yourself to take risks and be wrong on occasion. If you can do these things, you can be successful not only in my class, but in all of your other classes, and you will set yourself up for the opportunity to be successful after you graduate. I promise that I will challenge you throughout the semester, and there will be days when you don't think you can handle it, but I will never ask you to do something that I don't believe you are capable of accomplishing. Just be persistent and work with me, and you will grow and learn more this year than you ever have before. Please feel free to talk to me if you ever have any questions or need help, and I will be more than happy to do what I can to help you. Good luck and lets have a great year! Contact Mr. TurleyFeel free to contact me if you need anything. Students, remember that the only way I can communicate with you via email is through your county-issued address.
