I'm sending a remind 101 text later today. I need everyone to go to the following link and follow the directions provided! I was supposed to do it last week, but with the snow days, it got skipped over accidentally. It'll only take you a few minutes to do! Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks!

I'm sorry I can not be there again today. This virus is just kicking my butt. I'm going to get back to school as soon as I possibly can. Today you are working on rough drafts in the media center. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions at any point. I'll be trying to check my email periodically throughout the day, so you should get a response back. Just use the process assignments you've been working on this week to guide you, and you should be fine. Rough drafts are due on Monday. We will peer edit then, and I'll hopefully be able to answer any questions you may have during that time. Good luck and behave yourselves! Hopefully I'll be able to see you guys tomorrow!
Hey everyone! I'm sorry that I'm out again today. Just when I thought I was done missing class, I caught some kind of virus and have had a fever the last couple of days. If I could be functional and be at school, I'd be there. Good news is I feel better today than I did yesterday, so providing I don't have any set backs, I should be at school tomorrow to help you with your rough drafts (by the way, plan on meeting in the media center in the middle lab tomorrow rather than in the classroom).
Now, the reason I have you on here is to help me explain your final project. I wanted to roll it out to you as soon as possible even though you have plenty of time to work on it. For your final project, you will be creating a digital portfolio of all the work you have done this semester. For honors students, you will actually have every course represented on your portfolio while academic students only have to focus on English unless they would like to do more. The concept of this project is pretty simple. Everything you possibly need to know is on the main English I page on my website (simply click English I Honors instead of any of the drop down tabs). If you scroll down to the bottom of that page, you'll see a section titled Digital Portfolio. You'll find a few things on that page that are important. You'll find a document that has step-by-step instructions on how to complete your portfolio, which also includes a list of requirements for it. You'll also see a simplified checklist of the requirements (this is something good to look at as you finish your portfolio to make sure you haven't missed anything). You'll also see some links for exemplars. These are all previous students of mine who completed this same project last year. Please keep in mind, however, that the directions that these students received were slightly different than what I am asking you to do this year. For example, before this year, students did not have to write a reflection of each artifact they showed. This is one of the biggest differences you'll see. Anyways, this is something I wanted you to start looking at and thinking about. If you look through the exemplars, there are a vareity of ways you can post your documents and artifacts, so you can start thinking about what will work best for you. I will be giving everyone at least one day in the computer lab (possibly two) to work striclty on this when we get back from break (actually, January 3rd is our first day back and we will be in the lab working that day). Third period, that day we are in the lab, we will actually have a couple of guests from the district office coming to take pictures, record videos, and do interviews of some of you as you are working on your portfolios because this project is being used as an exemplar for a district initiative (which is part of the reason why I was at a conference with Mr. King and Mrs. Norris two weeks ago). I'll give you more details about this next week. Last couple of things about this project that are very important. First of all, do not start doing this all on your own. Follow the directions that I provided you step-by-step. If you go off on your own with it, there is a good chance you make a mistake or miss something. Sometimes these mistakes can be fixed easily. Sometimes to fix the mistake, it requires students to start all over. Everytime you go to work on it, pull up the directions and follow along with them. Second, you'll notice a submission link on my website in the digital portfolios section. In the directions, it tells you when to submit your portfolio link (it is near the end). If you do not submit your website information through this form, then your project is not officially "submitted" and you will receive a zero for it. Make sure you do not skip this step! Lastly, for those of you who I know will ask, this will count as 50 points in literature. If you follow directions and put some effort into this project and complete everything like you are told to, you will receive an A. The project will be due the day before exams, January 17th, at 11:59pm. LO: Students will learn how to analyze and compare speeches.
Go to the main English I page and find the document titled Steve Jobs and Stephen Colbert Timed Group Activity. You will also want copies of the Steve Jobs speech and Stephen Colbert speech. Each is linked nearby as is the video of Colbert's speech. This will have all the information you need from class today. Due Dates: R&J Discussion Board - Monday @11:59pm Rhetorical Strategies Vocab Quiz - Wednesday Animal Farm Ch. 1-7 - Wed 12/21 Animal Farm Ch. 8-10 - Thurs 1/5 LO: Students will learn about background info vital to understanding Animal Farm.
